Atletico Madrid defender Jose Gimenez admits the players are floored after their Champions League elimination.
Atletico were dumped out on Tuesday night after defeat at Borussia Dortmund.
Gimenez said: "The team was screwed, the people too and all this hurts because we don't deserve it. We have to digest it, we have to apologise, raise our heads and thank all the people who came to Germany and continue to follow us.
"It's difficult to find a word that is positive. We need to raise our heads, it's a difficult moment, but it needs to be digested and assimilated. We'll let the time pass, the minutes and nothing, we'll continue as always.
"We could have finished the first leg by winning 3-0 at the Metropolitan, we could have won with more goals there, but also drawn. In the Champions League if you fail they condemn you, in attack and defence.
"It's a disaster, it seemed as if the match came from our side: we saw it on the pitch, with spaces, creating from behind and with superiority, arriving with the players in the penalty area. We failed the last pass and now nothing."
