Ex-Arsenal, Real Madrid striker Julio Baptista retires

Former Arsenal and Real Madrid star Julio Baptista has called it a day in football.

The Brazilian striker has decided to retire at the age of 37.

Baptista started his career in Sao Paolo, made his name at Sevilla and then joined Arsenal for a semi-successful stint in the Premier League.

He even played for Real Madrid for a brief period, Roma and Malaga. A stint in the United States also ensued.

"After more than 20 years in the football elite, it is time to step aside and announce that I have decided to end my career as a player," he wrote on social media.

"I begin a new life, and I want to show my gratitude to all those who have made it possible for me to fulfill my dream. Thank you all."
