Former Juventus captain Giorgio Chiellini admits Cristiano Ronaldo arrived furious with Real Madrid.
Chiellini says Ronaldo was angry with the way he had been treated as Real sold him for €117m in 2018 to Juve.
"His personality during difficult times impressed me. The first year he wanted to shake the world and show that he was stronger than all of Real Madrid," he told the The BSMT.
That campaign was the one in which Juventus had the best chance of winning the Champions League, although they ended up eliminated by Ajax in the quarterfinals.
“We were unlucky with injuries and lost against Ajax. If we had reached the final, he would have led us to victory," added Chiellini.
“In the following years the level dropped a little and as he was older he could no longer carry the team alone. He was the icing on the cake, but he needed a bigger cake."
Even so, Ronaldo won two Scudetti, two Super Cups and an Italian Cup. Furthermore, he scored 101 goals in 134 games, ending his time in Turin as the fourteenth all-time scorer.
“I could appreciate him. He is a 'multinational' player, but he fit well into the group. He is not like the others, he cannot be. You can't ask him to have a snack in the city centre, but he never failed when necessary. Not at team dinners either. He is respectful, almost obsessive in taking care of his body and in preparing it. He wants to score and win," explained Chiellini.
“It was an honour to be his captain at Juventus and to live every day with a champion like him."
