Lecce coach Roberto d'Aversa has called Thomas Henry since his clash with the Hellas Verona attacker yesterday.

After Sunday's defeat to Verona, D'Aversa and Henry clashed, with the coach headbutting the player.

D'Aversa's actions were later condemned by Lecce in a statement: "US Lecce, with reference to the episode involving the coach D'Aversa and the Verona player Henry, while evaluating the situation of general nervousness at the end of the match, firmly condemns the gesture of our own coach as it is contrary to the principles and values of sport."

Henry also said: "I'll start by saying that I want to apologise to my teammates and to the fans. I apologise for having reacted, with words, to the many provocations experienced on the pitch today, which is understandable in a match with such high stakes.

"But this does not and will never justify a headbutt when you have already taken the road to the locker room, happy with the three points earned."

D'Aversa has since apologised for what happened: "I let myself get carried away by the heat and I lost clarity, but not to the point of hitting another person. This doesn't belong to me, I reject it and I don't accept it. Once again I apologise to Henry."

TMW says D'Aversa has since called the French striker to clarify the situation - there was a calm and relaxed chat between the two.
