Liverpool wanted former club captain Jordan Henderson to play a key role for the team this term.
Henderson was a surprise exit in the summer, as he signed for a Saudi Pro League club.
However, his stay at Al-Ettifaq did not last very long, with Henderson signing for Ajax this winter.
Per The Mail, senior officials at Liverpool were hoping that Henderson would remain club captain for years to come.
However, he was tempted by the money on offer in Saudi and felt he could not say no.
Now he is looking to rebuild his career and remain in contention for the England squad for Euro 2024.
